All you really need to do is read the headline and get excited! The owners of local Cuban delight, Havana Rumba have confirmed that they will be opening a new location, Havana Rumba Express & Tapas Bar, where Desserts by Helen used to be in the Douglass Loop. They will actually be tearing down the wall between there and the former Fat Jimmy’s (or mucho queso) location to make on large restaurant. All I have to say is that this will be an incredible addition to the neighborhood!
From what I understand, the new spot will have the incredible Cuban food that Havana Rumba is known for (the “express” in the title relates to the fast casual dining style), as well as a Spanish style style tapas bar…all under one roof! I am pretty sure the agreement for the restaurant space was just signed a few days ago, so there are a lot of details to be ironed out still, but I’m hoping it won’t be too long before we see some action in there.
If you haven’t been, you need to go to either one of their fantastic restaurants. The original Havana Rumba is located in St. Matthews on Oechsli Ave at Sears Ave near Cafe Lou Lou and Jack’s Lounge. There is also a Middletown location. They have incredible authentic Cuban food at reasonable prices. Go. Do it.
Mojito is the second of these successful restaurants. Located in Holiday Manor shopping center, Mojito has a tapas style (small plate) menu…and again, great mojitos. Their wine list is nice as well. You can’t beat the flavors of these two places and I can’t wait until we can enjoy both right here in the Highlands!
If you love eating at great Louisville Restaurants, and you love eating at delicious Highlands Restaurants, then you will want to pay attention to the building at 2210 Bardstown Rd. Be on the lookout for the Havana Rumba crew, the Havana Rumba sign, and of course any info I come across, I will post! Happy eating.
The crew is already working and making progress… Thanks so much for this post highlighting our restaurants. We are thrilled to be in your neighborhood!!!!
