Well, It seems as if I was just here not too long ago. If you didn’t read my last post about El Camino taking over the building where Avalon used to be on Bardstown Rd. I was wondering when the dream would become a reality. Well, the sale of the building went through just a couple days ago and the construction begins soon!
This build, transforming the old Avalon building into a brand new El Camino restaurant, will be 85 days according to owner Shawn Cantley, plus 15-30 days before and after for permits and licenses. I along with many others in The Highlands and Louisville in general, have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of El Camino. Avalon was great and all, but it’s been vacant for too long and I am very happy to hear they will be starting construction in the next couple of weeks.
Shawn Cantley is also part of the recent Clifton success, The Silver Dollar restaurant on Frankfort Ave. The new concept, California Surftown Mexican street food, was spoken of last year and El Camino was expected to be opened around Thanksgiving 2012. I’m not sure what happened, but I am very glad that they got everything worked out. This will be a great addition to the neighborhood. Looks like we have a couple great restaurants to look forward to in the Highlands!
