It happens from time to time, and even knowing that it’s coming it somehow always seems to take us by surprise! I have heard it said that Louisville, KY will experience tornadoes, floods, ice storms, and snow storms, yet has the capacity to deal with none of them. Funny and somewhat true.
We have now heard each year for the past 3 or 4 years about a snow storm or “winter storm” that is on its way. We cancel school, buy all the bread and milk in the region, and hole up in our houses. Morning comes and there isn’t snow flake to be seen anywhere. In fact, it is most likely sunny and 73 degrees outside instead. After the third or fourth time of getting nothing, we blow off the weather warnings and “winter storm” alerts, and maybe try to schedule a tee time. Kind of like what happened today, 12/6/13. Two days ago I saw a picture of four different weather models and their predictions for the Louisville area. I saw anywhere from 1.5 inches to 7.5 inches predicted.
As expected, the grocery stores were flooded, and the shelves emptied. I was at the store too since I kinda felt like this was it. Finally, we got our snow this afternoon after a couple hours of ice. However, while driving around this afternoon I noticed that there is still an inordinate amount of people scampering around as if they didn’t expect this. This makes them even more deadly because now they are trying to call and cancel tomorrow’s tee time AND post a picture of the sloppy road conditions on Facebook, all while driving.
