Since the first “five best burgers in Louisville” post I wrote well over a year ago, I have had the opportunity to experience some new burgers and rediscover some old favorites. These five burgers are some of the best burgers in Louisville, and as with my first five, the list is quite diverse.
W. W. Cousins | 900 Dupont Rd | St Matthews
Since 1983 this classic Louisville burger joint has been giving burger lovers exactly what they want, the way they want it by offering a massive bar of self-serve toppings (around 40 different toppings) for your burger! This place is all homemade. They bake the buns, breads, cakes, pies, cookies (by the way you need to carry out a few of their desserts), they even make their own ice cream at W. W. Cousins. The restaurant is large so feel free to bring a group of people with you to enjoy one of Louisville’s best burgers just the way you want.
Sidebar | 129 S 2nd St | Whiskey Row, Central Downtown
A relatively new addition to the Whiskey Row Loft building across 2nd street from the Yum! Center, Sidebar is a whiskey joint that is all about burgers! The historic building is an amazing sight when you walk through the door, and their menu has a burger for every type of burger fan. Sidebar has your classics, but they also have some creative concoctions for the adventurous diner. All their patties are a blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, and there’s no denying the amazing flavor that comes from that perfect blend!
Holy Grale | 1034 Bardstown Rd | Highlands
Not only does Holy Grale have one of the best patios in Louisville, but they make a solid burger for you to eat on that patio. Actually, most everything on their menu is delicious, but the burger is a nice change of pace from other burgers. It varies from season to season what toppings they might pair it with, but it’s typically served on a pretzel bun or some sort of specialty bun. The beef will be local to Kentucky or Southern Indiana (and it will be the bomb), and it will be cooked perfectly. They have some creative people in the kitchen so be on the lookout for special burgers, too!
Bluegrass Burgers | 3334 Frankfort Ave | Crescent Hill
Speaking of local, Bluegrass Burgers keeps it true to Kentucky. They use all Kentucky grass-fed bison and beef, local produce for toppings, Kenny’s Farmhouse cheeses, and desserts from Kizito, Comfy Cow, and Cellar Door. This is one of the freshest tasting burgers in Louisville, and possibly the world.
Highlands Tap Room | 1058 Bardstown Rd | Highlands
This is also a solid place to dine on the patio! The Highlands Tap Room burger was actually recommended to me by someone who read my first Louisville burger post, and I am extremely glad that he decided to tell me about it. This patty is ground short rib and New York Strip, and you can tell by how juicy it is. You will need napkins when you bite into this beast for the first time. The flavor is incredible, and it was cooked exactly how it should have been cooked. I had pepperjack and bacon on my burger, but you can get whatever you want because I promise that you will name it one of Louisville’s best burgers too!
No matter what your burger type might be, we have a lot of delicious options in Louisville. Try any and all of these best burgers in Louisville and you won’t be let down!
