There’s no doubt that one of the greatest things about Louisville, KY is our farmer’s markets. We are surrounded by great farms. It’s that simple. Here in the Highlands, we have 3-ish farmer’s markets counting the Phoenix Hill Farmer’s Market, The Douglass Loop, and Bardstown Road. I recently took a stroll through the Bardstown Road Farmer’s Market to shoot some photos and I was reminded of how cool and unique each individual market is, and why our farmer’s markets truly rock.
The Bardstown Rd farmer’s market packs quite a lot into one square parking lot at the corner of Bardstown Rd and Deer Park Ave with around 30 different vendors each week. Well-known names like Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheeses, Field Day Family Farms, KY Bison, and Dreamcatcher Farms were present, as well as some names that were new to me. There were flowers, eggs, veggies, jams, nuts, and just about everything you would expect from a good farmer’s market. I encountered a young string band that was playing music for the masses. I encountered an omelet station and thought, “what a great idea!” I even got to meet the market director, Beth, who is super friendly and just as excited to be at the market as everyone else!
The Bardstown Road Farmer’s Market has such a warm, friendly atmosphere. It carries a really nice Highlands vibe. My weekend visit reminded me of why I shop at all the Highlands farmer’s markets. They are all very special in their own way, and they all have something for everyone. The Bardstown Rd Farmer’s Market is no exception with friendly people, high quality products from the best local spots, and enough variety so that there is no need to go anywhere else. If you’ve never been or it’s been a while, you should stop in the Bardstown Rd Farmer’s Market and check it out. They are open every Saturday from 8:00 am – noon at 1722 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40205.
