Labor Day in Louisville 2014

You just got back from summer vacation and it’s already time for another vacation! This weekend is Labor Day, and like most long weekends, Louisville is jam packed with action for you and the whole family. Here are a few Labor Day weekend activities that I recommend.

Waterfront Wednesday | Wednesday (duh)

WaterWedSunsetOverIt’s not “officially” a part of Labor Day festivities in Louisville, but it doesn’t hurt that it happens to fall on the same week. Waterfront Wednesday is a local favorite each and every month during the Summer. This Wednesday you can kick off your Labor Day weekend early by heading down to the Big Four Lawn to hear some sweet musical jams by Shovels and Rope, The Wild Feathers, and Tim Easton. 6:00 PM until dark. Fun for the whole family and FREE of charge!

10th Annual Louisville Zombie Attack | Friday

Sounds crazy, right? It’s pretty intense. This is something that you don’t even have to participate in to enjoy. Basically, a whole bunch of people (like 30,000 ish) dress up in zombie gear and walk from Eastern Parkway down to Highlands Tap Room stopping at places in between. The walk starts at 8:29 pm. There is also a starting point at Mid-City Mall for large groups and families, and there will be family activities there in the parking lot. There are a number of different bands that are set to play on 3 different stages at the Highlands Tap Room, as well as costume contests, and give-aways. The party is indoor, on the sidewalk, on the street, and everywhere in between! It’s also fun to note that this whole things started ten years ago as a themed birthday party for two people.

Frankfort Ave Trolley Hop | Friday

One of Louisville’s favorite monthly gigs is also  a Labor Day weekend event! The last Friday of each month is the Frankfort Ave Trolley Hop where you can travel up and down the Avenue for food, drink, fellowship, and free trolley rides. 6:00 pm to around 10:30 pm, you can enjoy special events, tastings, special sales, and entertainment at many of the Frankfort Ave shops and stops. Visit FatFridayHop.org for all the details.

Kentucky Bluegrass & Bourbon Experience | Saturday & Sunday

You should know by now that cool stuff happens at the Louisville Water Tower all the time! During Labor Day weekend, the sprawling green lawn turns into the Kentucky Bluegrass and Bourbon Experience. This two-day event features ten different bluegrass bands, delicious food, and a bourbon tasting lounge in an air-conditioned tent. Admission is $10 if you get there before 6:00 pm.

Family Palooza | Monday

Starting at 11:00 am on Labor Day, Southeast Christian Church will be hosting the annual Family Palooza event in the parking lots of all three campuses (Blankenbaker, Indiana, and Oldham). This is a free event filled with family fun! Face painting, inflatables, train rides, a petting zoo, music, carnival games and so much more. If you’re wondering where to take the family for Labor Day, look no further!

There are plenty of things to do this weekend in Louisville so don’t miss out on all the Labor Day action!
