It has been well over a year since my first Louisville patio post, “Outdoor Dining in Louisville: The Patio Lover’s Guide”. As I read through it recently I realized that it is absolutely imperative that I write a follow up piece with more Louisville al fresco dining. It’s patio season, so check out some of these Louisville restaurants that have fantastic outdoor dining!
Captain’s Quarters | 5700 Captain’s Quarter’s Rd | Ohio River
Not only is Captain’s Quarters a piece of Louisville history, but this restaurant has one of the largest patios you can find in this city… and it comes with a fabulous view of the Ohio River. The vast menu includes sandwiches, salads, seafood, steaks, chicken, and chops, and the massive outdoor deck bar has live music Thursday through Sunday most weeks. There are plenty of spaces to host events, or just sit on the dock with some friends and a cocktail.
Manny & Merle | 122 W Main St | Downtown
Manny & Merle happens to make some of the best tacos and margaritas in town. With a recent menu addition of Nashville style Hot Chicken, there is so much deliciousness under one roof! They also have re-invented the space on the side of their building to make a superb outdoor dining area. Right across from the KFC Yum! Center, this Louisville patio puts you in the middle of Downtown Whiskey Row action.
The Bristol Bar & Grille | Multiple Louisville Restaurants
The Bristol Bar & Grille is a Louisville restaurant staple with multiple locations around town. Their Highlands patio is a brick garden loaded with foliage and umbrella tables. The height of the building casts a shadow on most of the outdoor seating area keeping temperatures cool enough to enjoy throughout the summer. With one of the best appetizers in Louisville and a classic menu you should definitely check out this Louisville patio.
Roux | 1325 Bardstown Rd | Highlands
Another Highlands favorite, Roux, is a newer restaurant that brings New Orleans to Louisville with their creole cuisine and atmosphere. On the front of this converted, historic highlands home is a newly poured concrete patio with plenty of room for you and your friends to sit on Bardstown Rd and enjoy Highlands people watching as you dine al fresco. Bring your beads and enjoy New Orleans right in the middle of the Highlands on this fantastic Louisville patio.
Mellow Mushroom | 1023 Bardstown Rd | Highlands
Mellow Mushroom recently opened a new location on Bardstown Rd in the Highlands. The pizza giant had patio lovers in mind when they designed the two-story fresh build by incorporating a nice-sized second floor patio. No matter your thoughts on pizza, you can’t ignore their diverse beer list. In typical Mellow Mushroom fashion, the first floor frontage feels like a patio when the garage doors are lifted, but the concrete deck upstairs means that your outdoor dining experience comes with a great view of the Highlands.
Saints Pizza & Pub | 131 Breckinridge Ln | St Matthews
Saints’ Louisville patio is a bit of a secret to those driving past the restaurant on Breckinridge Ln. Hidden behind the corner of St Matthews Station you will find an incredible getaway made of brick pavers and giant bourbon barrels filled with flowers and shrubs. The massive outdoor dining space contains high-top tables, large party tables, a covered bar, and a few tvs. At any given time you might catch the delightful aroma of their smokers cooking some of Louisville’s best chicken wings.
El Mundo | 2345 Frankfort Ave | Clifton
Home of the best fish tacos in Louisville, El Mundo brings you fresh Mexican cuisine in a most interesting atmosphere. In the back of this delightful 20-year old Louisville restaurant is a gravel patio with about five or six umbrella tables and a large privacy fence with vines creating a fantastic ambience. This Louisville patio is perfect for enjoying an award-winning margarita and your favorite Mexican dish.
Jack’s Lounge | 122 Sears Ave | St Matthews
Better known for its leather couches and dim lighting in the lounge area, this Dean Corbett restaurant also has one fine patio. Nestled back on Sears Ave (where the players dwell) in St Matthews, the patio at Jack’s Lounge has quite a bit of room. Semi-private to the parking lot and covered, you can carry on conversations or just sit back and enjoy the air. Don’t forget to order one of Louisville’s best appetizers!
BBC | 3929 Shelbyville Rd | St Matthews
Bluegrass Brewing Company in St Matthews has had a growing patio for years. It started off a lot different than its current state, but the brewery’s outdoor dining area has grown into a covered, shaded warehouse of seating with a stage. Try out a few home brews while you catch the breeze on this Louisville patio.
Uptown Cafe | 1624 Bardstown Rd | Highlands
Why not sit right on the Bardstown Rd sidewalk while you eat? Uptown Cafe lets you do just that. Not just a fabulous Highlands restaurant with one of my favorite appetizers in Louisville, but an outdoor dining gem. There’s just enough cover over this Louisville patio to shade some of the sun, and protect you from some light drizzle, but not so much to keep you from enjoying the spectacular people watching area of Bonnycastle.
Meridian Cafe | 112 Meridian Ave | St Matthews
Meridian Cafe is one of the best places for lunch in Louisville. They also have a fabulous little patio on the side of their building and a couple of large picnic tables in front. With a serious local menu full of creative goodness, Meridian is a must stop on the patio list for Louisville patio lovers. It almost feels like your at home in the front yard with your own picnic basket!
There are plenty more patios attached to Louisville restaurants. In case you missed my first article, check out these other Louisville outdoor dining spots.
